A World Health Organisation specialist will brief Ireland's SARS expert group today on how best to deal with the athletes from SARS-affected areas who are due to travel to the Special Olympics next month.

The move comes after Clonmel Town Council said it wanted to renege on its pledge to host the Hong Kong team.

Meanwhile, reports this morning said doctors are to be given the power to force any person suspected of contracting the virus into quarantine.

Yesterday, doctors in Dublin began investigating another suspected case of severe acute respiratory syndrome in an elderly woman who had recently returned to Ireland from Toronto in Canada.

The woman was originally admitted to St Vincen'ts Hospital, but was transferred to the Mater Hospital last night.

However, doctors have reportedly informed the Department of Health that the case does not conform to the official definition of a suspect or probable case.
