President Mary McAleese has laid a wreath at the site of the World Trade Centre in New York, where almost 3,000 people died in last year’s hijack attacks.

President Mary McAleese has laid a wreath at the site of the World Trade Centre in New York, where almost 3,000 people died in last year’s hijack attacks.

Mrs McAleese laid the wreath on behalf of the people of Ireland.

On Saturday, the President will attend mass in St Patrick’s Cathedral before reviewing the New York St Patrick’s Day parade.
