Two men were found dead today in southern Austria, and police said they apparently froze to death in the cold weather.

One of the men, a 76-year-old, was found in woodlands in Carinthia province, while the other, a 49-year-old, died in his unheated room after excess alcohol consumption, the Austria Press Agency said. Neither was identified.

A mixture of rain and snow that began falling across Austria over the weekend caused dozens of traffic accidents and commuting delays and led authorities in Salzburg province to issue a high avalanche alert.

Meanwhile a Russian tourist was reported missing today following an avalanche at the eastern Turkish ski resort of Palandoken in the eastern Erzurum province.
