The five babies delivered to Wexford woman, Veronica Cassidy, have almost made it through their first day.

Dublin’s Rotunda Hospital says the country’s only quintuplets are doing well, despite being delivered almost four months premature.

The three boys and three girls were delivered at 8.30pm last night by Caesarian and all five were doing well this evening.

The tiniest of the babies weighs only one pound, five ounces.

The biggest is only six ounces heavier.

They are being kept under intensive care and are constantly monitored for difficulties.

Security at the hospital is very tight tonight, as the battle is on to get the first photo of the new arrivals.

That could take a while, however, as only immediate family members will be allowed to visit at the moment.

Veronica and her five babies are expected to stay at the Rotunda for some time.
