Brothers sentenced for MacDonalds robbery

Two brothers who robbed the MacDonald’s at Superquinn in Lucan has been jailed for six and four years respectively by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Two brothers who robbed the MacDonald’s at Superquinn in Lucan has been jailed for six and four years respectively by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Barry (aged 24) and James Rogers (aged 22) of Arthur Griffith Park, Lucan, pleaded guilty to armed robbery from the MacDonald’s in Superquinn, Lucan on July 20, 2002.

Barry Rogers also pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and cannabis for sale and supply at his home on April 12, 2002.

Detective Garda John Byrne told Judge Frank O’Donnell that Barry was carrying a knife and James a black pellet gun when they entered the MacDonald’s on July 20, 2002. They took €450 from the till, which was never recovered.

Judge O’Donnell noted that while none of the staff at MacDonald’s during the robbery has suffered lasting damage, they had all been psychologically affected to varying degrees.

Gardaí caught Barry Rogers with €2,000 worth of heroin and €4,000 worth of cannabis at his home when searching the premises on foot of a search warrant.

Det Gda Byrne said when gardaí knocked on his door on April 12, 2002 they observed, through the letter box, Barry attempting to flee the scene. As he was running he dropped a plastic bag containing heroin and later found the cannabis in a garage shed.

Gardaí also seized €520 and a weighing scale during the searcj warrant. Judge O’Donnell acceeded to an application made by proseuting counsel, Mr Dominic McGinn BL, on behalf of the gardai that the €520 be donated to the neo-natal wing of the Coombe Hospital, which regularly deals with children of heroin addicts.

Judge O’Donnell sentenced Barry to five years for the possession of drugs, to run concurrently with the six-year sentence for robbery.
