Plans to build a mass burn incinerator in Ringsend, Dublin, have collapsed.

Plans to build a mass burn incinerator in Ringsend, Dublin, have collapsed.

The controversial Poolbeg incinerator project proposed trucking up to 600,000 tonnes of waste to the site every year.

Residents of southeast Dublin have consistently opposed Dublin City Council's plans to transport refuse from four counties through Ringsend for incineration.

The Tánaiste Michael McDowell said the news represents a victory for local democracy.
