Man charged with murder in suitcase killing

A Russian ex-policeman has appeared in court charged with the murder of a Romanian whose body was found in a suitcase in the Royal Canal last year.

A Russian ex-policeman has appeared in court charged with the murder of a Romanian whose body was found in a suitcase in the Royal Canal last year.

Igore Derjhack, 29, was charged with the murder of 21-year-old Adrian Bestea, who was beaten to death in a flat in Sandymount in July 2001.

He was remanded in custody at Clover Hill District Court for a week.

A second Russian, who is charged with assaulting and falsely imprisoning Mr Bestea, was also remanded.
