Former world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan has his sights set on the pool circuit in the US as he prepares to return to competition after a near five-month break.
The 29-year-old had claimed he was “90% certain” of taking a year out of snooker following his quarter-final exit from the World Championships in April.
However, O’Sullivan, is making his comeback in the Betfred Premier League but has insisted he will pick and choose his events in order to take up the new challenge in America.
He told the Daily Express: “I would give pool tournaments in the USA priority over those smaller events if there was a dates clash.
“I don’t anticipate any problems with the snooker authorities. No-one can force you to play in a tournament.
“If it came to it, I’d say: ‘All right then, I won’t play in any of the BBC events, any of the Sky events. I’ll hand in my contract in and go off to America to play pool for a year.’
“My first pool tournament should be in Orlando in November.
“It’s a whole new challenge and I’ll get no favours while I’m learning.
“Who I am and what I’ve done in snooker won’t matter.”
