A man has died after falling from the cliffs in Kilkee in Co Clare today.

A man has died after falling from the cliffs in Kilkee in Co Clare today.

The incident happened as the holidaymaker was fishing off a popular mackerel spot in the town this afternoon.

The alarm was raised at around 1.15pm this afternoon when the holidaymaker who was fishing off Dunlicky with his young son lost his footing and went over the cliff edge.

Kilkee Marine Rescue Service along with the Shannon Based Irish Coastguard Helicopter were dispatched to the scene and the 47-year-old's body was taken from the water shortly after 1.30pm.

His remains are due to be brought to Limerick Regional Hospital for a postmortem and gardaí are making contact with family members.
