Representatives of the country’s students, angry at a 69% hike in registration fees, are meeting the Education Minister Noel Dempsey today.

The Union of Students Ireland say the increase has made it financially impossible for some students to attend college.

USI spokesperson Tommy Reidy says the Minister will have to address the issue, and they are calling for a U-turn on the rise in fees.

"I have been getting letters from parents and students all last week and this week as the anger out there is growing."

He added: "We will be telling Mr Dempsey that this anger is something that the Government is going to have to deal with."
