A man has drowned in a boating accident in Co Westmeath.

A man has drowned in a boating accident in Co Westmeath.

The tragedy happened during a duck shooting trip on Lough Lene, near Castlepollard.

The victim, who was from the Multyfarnham area, was with two friends when their boat capsized yesterday evening.

The other two managed to swim to shore and raise the alarm.

The dead man's body was recovered by search teams at around 2am.
