Ireland remains opposed to any financial transaction tax, unless it is imposed by all EU states, a Government Minister said today.
Last night, French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced a 0.1% tax from August.
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton said today that such a move will not be considered by Ireland, unless it was adopted by the entire EU.
"Ireland's view would certainly be that any such transaction taxes should only be introduced on the basis of all countries within the EU because of the danger of creating artificial movements of activity," he said.
