HSE reveals small decrease in budget deficit

The Health Service Executive was running a budget deficit of €399m at the end of September.

The Health Service Executive was running a budget deficit of €399m at the end of September.

Its latest performance report shows that figure is just €5m less than the previous month.

However, the HSE has said September is the first month in which there has been a reduction in the deficit.

It also said there are indications that the cost-cutting measures in place at the executive are successfully reducing spend rates.
