Bosses of trouble-hit British Airways today vowed to put their recent difficulties behind them as they joined airport staff to help cope with the UK Bank Holiday exodus.
Chief Executive Rod Eddington and members of the company’s board of directors were on duty at Heathrow Airport this morning speaking to passengers and staff after a troubled week for the airline.
British Airways came under intense pressure on Tuesday when it was forced to cancel a further 31 flights on top of 51 the previous day because of a combination of staff shortages and technical difficulties.
It also had to cancel 14 flights on Thursday and six yesterday causing further misery for passengers.
The crisis came as directors were breathing a sigh of relief as the threat of industrial action, which would have crippled services this weekend, receded.
The airline said earlier this week that Mr Eddington and the directors would be joining a team of 300 volunteers from other parts of the business signed up to help colleagues in the terminals as they faced an influx of around half a million customers for the British Bank Holiday.
