Man on bail after oil-laundering plant discovered in Dundalk
A massive oil-laundering plant with the capacity to launder an estimated 7.5 million litres of fuel a year has been uncovered by customs officers.
A 22-year-old man faces charges in connection with the seizure of 25,000 litres of laundered diesel in a yard in Rassan, near Hackballscross, Dundalk, Co Louth.
Officers from the Revenue’s Customs Service were assisted by gardaí during the early morning raid and dismantled and seized laundering equipment.
Some 19,000 litres of toxic sludge, a hazardous chemical by-product of the laundering process, was also recovered.
A garda spokesman said the man arrested has been bailed and will appear before Dundalk District Court on March 9 to be formally charged with being involved in the laundering of fuel under Section 94 of the Finance Act.
