Figures show supermarket sector returning to growth

The Irish grocery market has returned to growth for the first time in six months, according to figures from Kantar Worldpanel.

Aldi has been the biggest winner with a 22% rise in sales in the 12-week period to April 27.

Sales at Tesco have fallen by 4% in the same period, while SuperValu’s market share now stands at 25.1%, an increase of 0.5%.

The figures show a shift in patterns from shopping little and often to making less trips but buying more groceries each time.
