A murder investigation is underway in Dublin after a 47-year-old man was

shot dead in a gangland-style killing last night.

Two people on a motorcycle fired a volley of shots into the man's car as he stopped at traffic lights at the junction of Rutland Avenue and Clogher Road in the Crumlin area of the city.

The incident occurred at 9.25pm.

The victim was known to gardai and it is understood he was due to stand trial before the Special Criminal Court on drug-related charges.

It is also believed a number of previous attempts have been made on his life.
