FT Leicester 1 Manchester City 1
David James’ dramatic late penalty save rescued a point for Manchester City against relegation rivals Leicester at the Walkers Stadium.
Paul Dickov’s spot-kick was parried by the City keeper after Michael Tarnat’s challenge on Muzzy Izzet in the box sparked uproar.
Referee Andy D’Urso took nearly five minutes to restore order as rows broke out all over the pitch and included some substitutes.
Tarnat’s 45th-minute free-kick had given City the lead but James Scowcroft’s header equalised in the 65th minute.
Leicester were awarded a penalty eight minutes from time when Izzet was fouled in the box by Tarnat.
The decision sparked uproar with City’s players surrounding D’Urso and Dunne’s pushing match with Izzet beginning a number of separate melees.
Wanchope fell to the ground while arguing with Dickov and both benches also became involved with a number of players having to be restrained.
After the lengthy delay Dickov stepped up but saw his spot-kick saved by Walker.
City were fuming again in injury-time when Anelka seemed to have been sent clear only for D’Urso to haul play back for a City free-kick on the halfway line.
Trevor Sinclair brought a fine point-blank save out of Walker deep into injury-time.
