Polish brothers assaulted at bonfire

Two young Polish brothers were injured in an attack at a bonfire in Lisburn in Antrim, it emerged today.

Two young Polish brothers were injured in an attack at a bonfire in Lisburn in Antrim, it emerged today.

The men were taken to hospital, where one was being treated for a suspected broken arm and the other for a head wound.

Both are in their 20s and were attending a bonfire in the Hill Street area of Lisburn when the assaults took place.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said the first brother was attacked at 3am and the second brother fled. But when he returned to the area at about 5am, he too was assaulted.

“Whilst a racial motive has not been ruled out, the circumstances surrounding the assaults are still unclear,” said the police spokeswoman.

Detectives at Lisburn are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
