Newcastle are discussing a possible deal to bring Italy full-back Francesco Coco to St James’ Park from Internazionale.
The 28-year-old did not figure regularly for the Italian side last season after spells at rivals AC Milan, Barcelona and Vicenza.
“Francesco Coco is flying into Newcastle from Italy today for talks,” chairman Freddy Shepherd told club’s website, www.nufc.co.uk.
The Inter full-back will discuss a move to Tyneside, although it remains unclear if the deal would be permanent or a loan.
Coco actually played against Newcastle in a Champions League clash two years ago during a 2-2 draw at the San Siro.
He also played for his country in the 2002 World Cup when Italy were unexpectedly defeated by South Korea in the second round.
Ajax and Olympiacos have also been linked with the defender, who would become manager Graeme Souness’ second signing from Inter following the arrival of Emre.
