Andy Cole will make his Sunderland debut for the reserves tonight.
The 35-year-old Newcastle and Manchester United old boy will start against Everton’s second string at Widnes as he attempts to force his way into contention for the senior side.
Cole joined the Black Cats 10 days ago as manager Roy Keane recruited his former team-mate to add experience to his squad, and the Nottingham-born frontman has spent the time since building up his fitness.
He will partner David Connolly tonight and be joined on the pitch tonight by full-back Ian Harte, who finally received his international clearance on Friday.
The 29-year-old former Leeds defender joined the club after a successful trial following his departure from Spanish club Levante, and will now look to stake his own claim for senior action.
