The RTE studio in Cork was closed today following an anthrax alert.

The studio at Fr Mathew Quay received a suspicious package from the UK and closed at 9.30am.

The alarm was raised with RTE's own internal security before gardai and army investigators arrived at the scene. Part of the city centre street was sealed off while special army scanning equipment was used to examine the package's contents.

The building was reopened at 12.30pm after the parcel proved harmless.
