Cabinet to hear of local government reforms

County councillors are to lose their power to overturn planning decisions, under plans to reform local government.

The Cabinet is to hear about those plans tomorrow.

Reforms are expected to propose the closure of all 75 town councils, as well as the merger or closure of some county councils.

In addition, mayors will no longer be directly elected.
