A series of bombings in northern Iraq killed at least 10 people today, officials said.

One attack in the northern city of Kirkuk started when a car bomb exploded near the offices of a Kurdish party, police said, followed by another bomb blast as officers gathered, killing five and wounding four.

Another bomb in a parked car hit an Iraqi army patrol in the Sunni-dominated town of Hawija to the west of Kirkuk, killing five people and wounding four others.

A health official confirmed the casualty figures.

Kirkuk is 175 miles north of Baghdad, and is home to a mix of Arabs, Kurds and Turkomen, all competing to control the city.
