Everton captain David Weir is facing a month on the sidelines after injuring his knee during Saturday's defeat to Chelsea at Goodison Park.

The 33-year-old defender went down in a challenge with Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu during the first half and is set to undergo a scan this week to determine what damage has been done.

Boss David Moyes told the club’s official website, www.evertonfc.com: “David Weir had a medial ligament injury in a block tackle and it has tweaked his ligaments.

“I don’t know the extent of the damage at present.”
