Businessman Larry Goodman is the largest Irish beneficiary of EU farm subsidies under the Common Agricultural Policy, it was reported today.
Reports this morning said Goodman's Irish Agricultural Development company was receiving €10,000-a-week under the Single Farm Payment Scheme.
The reports said the company was set to receive more than €500,000-a-year for the foreseeable future under the scheme, regardless of whether it produces any food on its land.
The figures were obtained as a result of a Freedom of Information request to the Department of Agriculture.
Mr Goodman is Europe's largest beef producer and one of the wealthiest men in Ireland.
