Half time sees deadlock between City and Reds

There was no way through for either side as top-four contenders Manchester City and Liverpool fought out a predictably tight Premier League first half at Eastlands.

City knew a win would take them above the Merseysiders into a Champions League slot but they failed to test Jose Reina in the opening period despite having plenty of possession.

Liverpool were marginally the better side and Harry Kewell had the visitors' best opportunity but Joe Hart got down to smother the winger’s angled drive at the second attempt.
