Thomas Myhre is set to make his debut for Sunderland in tomorrow night’s Worthington Cup second-round tie against Cambridge at the Abbey Stadium.

The free transfer signing from Turkish club Besiktas in the close season takes over from first-choice goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen, but manager Peter Reid keeps the changes to the side which beat Aston Villa on Saturday to a minimum.

Darren Williams will deputise at right-back for the injured Stephen Wright (ankle) and Marcus Stewart is recalled to partner Tore Andre Flo in attack with David Bellion switching to the right wing in place of Matt Piper.

Skipper Michael Gray, central defenders Emerson Thome and Joachim Bjorklund, midfielder Jason McAteer and striker Kevin Phillips are again ruled out through injury.

Provisional squad: Myhre, Williams, Kilbane, Craddock, Babb, Bellion, Reyna, McCann, Arca, Flo, Stewart, Macho, Thirlwell, Butler, Kyle, Quinn, McCartney, Clark.
