Cork City hope to seal the loan signing for Birmingham City goalkeeper Colin Doyle today, though the ‘keeper is still considering his options.
Cork are in desperate need of a goalkeeper having seen both regular ‘keepers Michael Devine and Mark McNulty ruled out through injury. Forty-one-year-old goalkeeper coach and City legend Phil ‘The Biscuit’ Harrington has been forced to don his goalkeeping gloves for the last two games.
Cork boss Damien Richardson immediately earned Republic of Ireland Under 21 ‘keeper Doyle as his preferred option, especially as the Birmingham third choice stopper is available on loan.
However, it now appears that Doyle, who is from Cork, wants to remain in England. His agent, Alex Black, said: “I’m not ruling it out but Colin would prefer to play in England.”
