Golden oldies turn sunset city into red light district
A US community of retired people has turned into a hotbed of outdoor sex.
Residents in Sun City West in Arizona, all of them retired, have now been warned that they face arrest by the local sheriff’s deputies if they don’t clean up their act and the sheriff’s posse has volunteered to help find the amorous oldies.
They have been ordered not to use the golf course, park benches, car parks, golf buggies and even the dog-walking course for their love-making sessions which have disgusted other senior citizens.
The police in the 26,000-strong community have received 24 complaints this year, mostly late at night or early in the morning.
Heterosexual and homosexual liaisons have been reported in the "sunset city" where a private company, Recreation Centres, runs public facilities.
The company’s spokeswoman, Mauryne (corr) Hall told CNN the problem was no joke.
"When you talk of sex in Sun City West, people kind of chuckle," she said.
"But it’s residents. It’s hard to believe they can’t do it in their own homes. It used to be an isolated pattern, but now we are seeing it more and more.
"When you get to a certain age, the assumption, certainly for younger people, is that older people don’t have sex. Well, that’s wrong - here, we do."
The firm has written to the sheriff’s department, asking them to arrest offenders and issue them with fixed-penalty notices.
And they want repeat offenders named and shamed in the local newspaper - although not in the singles section.
"Sex in Sun City West isn’t a problem - it’s a miracle," said Ms Hall.
"However, we need to keep some decorum. We don’t want to deny anybody their right to healthy sexual expression. We just want them to do it in a more appropriate place.
"Parking lots are not an appropriate place."
