The Fine Gael political party has rejected the allegations that the party was seeking corporate donations despite the party’s stance against such donations.

A spokesman for the party released a statement in response to this morning’s article in the Sunday Business Post that had made the allegations.

The report had suggested that the party was approaching business people for personal donations, leading Fianna Fail Junior Minister, Willie O’Dea, to accuse them of blatant hypocrisy.

The spokesman revealed that the party had sent out 25,000 letters to party members and supporters asking them if they would like to buy tickets to a fundraising draw for the party.

The spokesman admitted that some letters were sent to company executives who had made donations in the past but he pointed out that they were asked not to make the payments from corporate funds.

The letter is also said to clearly define its stand against corporate financing.
