A man is in garda custody after several types of drugs were seized from a house.

In a search carried out near Ballina in Co Mayo last night, officers discovered 3,053 ecstasy tablets, 1kg of ecstasy powder, six bars of cannabis resin and two bags of cocaine.

Gardai believe the total value of the seizure, pending a forensic analysis, is approximately €150,000.

Various drug equipment was also seized as well as almost €3,000 in cash.

A 51-year-old man was arrested at the scene and was taken to Ballina Garda Station where he was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.

He can be held without charge for up to seven days.

“The search was part of an ongoing operation by local drugs officers targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the Ballina area,” a Garda spokesman said.
