Govt approves €170,000 green scheme

The Government has approved more than €170,000 in funding for a scheme aimed at expanding woodlands around Irish towns and villages.

The Government has approved more than €170,000 in funding for a scheme aimed at expanding woodlands around Irish towns and villages.

Local authorities and community groups in 10 towns are expected to benefit from the funding, which will be used to plant new trees under the so-called "Neighbour-Wood" scheme.

Junior Minister John Brown said woodland amenities are vital to the environments of urban-based communities.
