CSO reports 0.5% rise in prices last month

Prices rose by 0.5% in the year to March, according to the Central Statistics Office.

The CSO said prices increased by 0.4% last month which compares to a 1% rise at the same time last year.

Notable increases were recorded in the Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (+4.8%) and Education (+4.7%) sectors, jumping by nearly 5% on prices in March last year.

Clothing and Footwear (+3.8%), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (+1.3%), and Transport (+1.2%) also reported increases.

The rises were attributed to a further recovery from sales, increases in health insurance premiums, a rise in airfares and higher petrol and diesel prices.
