An London based politician and a former Supreme Court Judge are among the seven people appointed to the Council of State by the President Michael D Higgins.

An London based politician and a former Supreme Court Judge are among the seven people appointed to the Council of State by the President Michael D Higgins.

Sally Mulready, a Labour councillor in the London Bourough of Hackney and former Supreme Court Judge Catherine McGuinness join five others, including Lawyer Michael Farrell, academics Deirdre Heenan, Gerard Quinn and Gearóid Ó Tuathaigh, and community activist Ruairí McKiernan.

The council advises the president on legislation, and also includes former Taoisigh, Presidents and Judges.
