Sligo Rovers 0 Cork City 3
Goals from Roy O’Donovan, John O’Flynn and Neale Fenn got champions Cork City right back on track in the title race as they leapfrogged Sligo into fourth place with this emphatic victory at the Showgrounds tonight.
O’Donovan settled any early nerves with the lead goal after just 10 minutes. Fenn’s cross was knocked back by Billy Woods and the Ireland under-21 international winger headed home.
City keeper Mick Devine made a terrific reflex save to keep out Adam Hughes’ header from Chris Turner’s free kick on 38 minutes. Conor O’Grady, following up, shaved the bar as Sligo deserved to be level at the break.
But O’Flynn, in his first start in 10 weeks, all but sealed Cork’s win when latching onto Danny Murphy’s through ball on 77 minutes to run on and shoot to the roof of the net.
The influential Fenn added the third goal a minute form time from a free kick.
