The Minister for the Environment has announced urban renewal grants of €19m for towns and cities across the country.

Heritage sites and run-down street will be the focus of the grant scheme which is aimed at improving the appearance of a number of sites in every county.

Minister Martin Cullen says it is the third successful year of the urban renewal plan.

"Streets in many of the towns and the cities that were run down needed something to rejuvenate them completely," he said.
