Mark Webber cannot wait to put political strife to the back of his mind and resume racing at Magny-Cours next weekend.
Webber and team-mate Nick Heidfeld have had more off-track drama to consider than most over the last few weeks, with the mass pull-out at Indianapolis following intense speculation about BMW’s future with Williams.
BMW this week confirmed they had bought Sauber, effectively cutting Williams adrift, and the repercussions following last weekend’s six-car race in the United States continue.
But Webber is looking forward to a quiet time in France, where he hopes to finally be allowed to concentrate on racing.
He said: “I always enjoy going to Magny-Cours as it’s in rural France, and in a part of the country I particularly like. The weather is usually good and the whole feel to the weekend is quite relaxed.
“The French Grand Prix is a pretty low key event in terms of off-track activities for the drivers as well.
“I enjoy being among the French fans and actually having the time to be able to concentrate on the job in hand without any distractions.”
Team-mate Heidfeld added: “Although some people don’t like this grand prix because it’s in the middle of nowhere, it doesn’t really affect the drivers as it means we can concentrate on the actual racing, which I prefer.”
