Scarlet Flyer bounced back to form under his ideal conditions in the seven-furlong Vini's Gucci And Pucci Handicap at Goodwood.
Gary Moore put the headgear back on his four-year-old and he cut down his rivals in the dying strides under Fergus Sweeney to record a length-and-a-quarter victory over the 4-1 favourite Blue Java.
Moore said: "He comes to himself at this time of year. This is the first time for a while he has had his ground and everything has gone right for him."
Illustrious Blue booked his ticket to Royal Ascot with victory in the Letheby & Christopher Festival Stakes over 10 furlongs.
The four-year-old had some useful form to his name and capitalised on it when staying on best of all under Paul Doe to collect by a three-quarters of a length.
Having been gambled down to 11-4 favouritism, William Knight's charge came under pressure a fair way out but, in his trademark style, he kept boxing away and collared the front-running Road To Love in the final half-furlong.
Knight said: "He is a star and we will look at Royal Ascot now.
"He is in the Hardwicke and the Wolferton, as well as the Prince Of Wales's but that may be aiming too high."
The fast-improving Rowe Park provided Linda Jewell with her first winner at the track when displaying a blistering turn of foot in the Baker Tilly Trophy Stakes.
Jewell was at Doncaster Sales, however, and missed seeing Liam Keniry producing the 9-1 shot with a powerful burst to take the five-furlong dash by half a length from Loch Verdi.
Jewell's charge only made his debut last July and Keniry said: "He won at Lingfield two weeks ago and has gone up 6lb for that so he is definitely improving.
"It was his first time on quick ground and he didn't come down the hill that well but he picked up in good style."
