China defended itself against Britain’s newly-released annual report on human rights today, calling its accusations “a political show”.

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said the country is making progress on human rights and any country or person without prejudice would recognise the progress.

Britain's Foreign Secretary David Miliband issued the annual human rights report just after his visit to China this week. The report, released yesterday, names China as one of 22 countries of concern.

The United States released its own human rights report on China earlier this month.
