John Stevens has said that every word of his damning report into Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane's death "is supported by evidence and documentation".

He added that the recommendations of his report must be implemented in the future fight against terrorism.

He said he uncovered "serious shortcomings" high-lighting collusion by the security forces with loyalist paramilitaries in Northern ireland.

These "shortcomings" included, he said, "Failure to keep records, absence of accountability, withholding of evidence and to the extreme of security force agents being involved in murder".

He said that as a result of the collusion, "innocent people were murdered or injured".
