Protesters have warned that they will step up their campaign for acute emergency services at Monaghan General Hospital if they don't get a top-level meeting with the Health Service Executive.

The entire membership of Monaghan County Council has been picketing Professor Brendan Drumm's office in Dublin.

They are demanding that the HSE boss meet them in person to discuss their concerns.

Independent TD Paudge Connolly says the people of Monaghan are being ignored.

He added that this protest is just a polite start and that the people are angry and will continue to express their anger.
