Buccaneers earned their first win of 2006 as they hit bottom side County Carlow for five tries at Oak Park.

The Pirates ended their run of three straight defeats and looked good value for the victory as they ended the first half 20-8 in front. Conor O’Loughlin and Tommy Cregan crossed for tries with full-back Cregan also landing two penalties.

Kiwi fly half Shay Ruai grabbed a try in either half to keep Carlow in touch but second half tries for Buccs from Conor Lavelle and stand-in captain Adrian Hanley (2) ended the game as a contest.

Scorers: Buccs: Conor O’Loughlin, Tommy Cregan, Conor Lavelle, Adrian Hanley 2; Cons: Cregan 4; Pens: Cregan 2

Carlow: Tries: Shay Ruai 2; Pen: Greg Jacob
