Aviva refusing to comment redundancy reports, says union

The Unite trade union said today that Aviva is refusing to confirm or deny reports it is planning to shed up to 1,000 jobs.

Management at the insurance company would also not confirm today when the ongoing review of its Irish operations will be completed.

We’ve received no information from them whatsoever

"Nothing that would either confirm or deny 800-1,000 job losses," said Brian Gallagher from Unite.

"All we now can do is wait, for three, four, five weeks, we’ve been given no indication of the time span until they make that announcement.

"It’s unsatisfactory."

Aviva employs around 2,000 people in Dublin, Cork and Galway.
