Two leading members of the Abbey Theatre's board of directors have resigned amid revelations the company's deficit for last year was double what had been forecast.

Two leading members of the Abbey Theatre's board of directors have resigned amid revelations the company's deficit for last year was double what had been forecast.

Reports this morning said managing director Brian Jackson had resigned due to an error in financial reporting that put the predicted a deficit at around €900,000, when the actual figure was €1.85m.

Outgoing artistic director Ben Barnes has also reportedly agreed to step aside for the remaining months of his term in light of the revelations.
