The Health and Safety Authority is today beginning an inspection blitz on building sites throughout the country in an effort to improve safety standards.
The authority said it was hoping to carry out 1,000 inspections over the coming fortnight.
The blitz will focus on house-building projects, particularly those in the north-west of the country, which has a higher-than-average rate of construction deaths.
