Reading stretch Championship lead - review

Reading stretched their lead at the top of the Coca-Cola Championship to four points with a 2-0 win at Plymouth while second-placed Sheffield United were losing 4-2 at Leicester.

Reading stretched their lead at the top of the Coca-Cola Championship to four points with a 2-0 win at Plymouth while second-placed Sheffield United were losing 4-2 at Leicester.

The Royals took the lead in the 20th minute with Glen Little lifting the ball into the Plymouth net.

And the victory was secured 12 minutes into the second half when Kevin Doyle netted Reading’s second.

Sheffield United were chasing the game at the Walkers Stadium from the 12 minute when Iain Hume gave Leicester the lead, steering home a cross from Ryan Smith, who scored himself three minutes later.

Steven Kabba pulled a goal back for the Blades seven minutes into the second half but Elvis Hammond restored Leicester’s two-goal lead in the 74th minute.

Hulme netted again for the Foxes in the third minute of stoppage time before a late, late Blades consolation goal from Danny Webber.

Watford hung on to third place after a 1-1 draw at Preston but Leeds moved to within a point of the Hornets following a 1-0 win at basement side Millwall.

Matthew Spring put Watford ahead in the 11th minute but their lead lasted just three minutes before Callum Davidson equalised for North End.

Leeds had Millwall striker Ben May to thank for their win at the New Den as his own goal in the second minute of stoppage time secured three points for the Yorkshiremen.

Luton also kept themselves in contention with a 2-0 win at home to Crystal Palace with goals from Markus Heikkinen, in the 11th minute, and Rowan Vine 10 minutes later.

Wolves lost ground as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Southampton in the day’s early kick-off before Burnley beat Crewe 3-0 with John Spicer scoring twice.

His first came in the 27th minute and his second after 68 minutes with Nathan Dyer adding the third four minutes after that.

Second-bottom Brighton earned a scoreless draw at home to Derby but Coventry will be less happy with their point after throwing away a two-goal lead at home to Norwich.

The Sky Blues scored twice in the first 10 minutes, Gary McSheffrey netting first in the third minute and Dele Adebola added a second seven minutes later.

However, the Canaries were back in the game five minutes by half-time thanks to Calum Davenport’s 40th-minute effort and Craig Fleming got the equaliser six minutes from time.

Gareth Ainsworth scored twice in 10 second-half minutes to lead QPR to a 2-2 draw at home to Hull, who had led 2-0 after goals from Ryan France and Billy Paynter netted either side of half-time for the visitors.

Ainsworth pulled a goal back in the 56th minute and his second preceded the 76th-minute red card for Hull’s Boaz Myhill for deliberate handball.

Goals from Sambegou Bangoura (17) and Mamady Sidibe (85) earned Stoke a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
