Four people have been charged with drug trafficking and 28 are being investigated in an alleged smuggling ring involving police and customs officials in Peru.

The investigation began after a former airport employee was arrested in February while allegedly carrying 130lbs of cocaine he intended to smuggle in airline food carts onto a flight to Mexico City.

Prosecutor Juan Mendoza said the man accepted a plea bargain to testify and was in jail on trafficking charges along with an ex-police officer and a customs official. A fourth suspect is being sought.
