Two massive oil tankers collided early today, 15 miles off the United Arab Emirates port of Fujairah in the Gulf of Oman, oil sources said.

British Vigilance, an empty Very Large Crude Carrier, and Stena King, an Ultra Large Crude Carrier laden with oil, are still touching each other, and tugs are attempting to separate them, a Dubai-based oil trader said.

Fujairah port’s harbourmaster would not give details of the collision, saying only that he was ‘‘in the middle of operations.’’

The extent of the damage was unclear, and it was not known if any of the oil had spilled out, the trader said.

British Vigilance was steaming toward the emirate of Dubai for repairs when the collision occurred.
