The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has said that he is "more confident than ever" that peace can be built on the island of Ireland.

The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has said that he is "more confident than ever" that peace can be built on the island of Ireland.

He said that he is committed to ensuring the success and stability of the new Northern Assembly and Executive.

Mr Ahern is due to plant a sapling with the North's First Minister-designate at the site of the Battle of the Boyne on May 11 - three days after Ian Paisley takes office.
